FAQ

  • What is the difference between a grief coach and a grief counselor ?

Grief coaching guides you through practical tools and goal-setting, while therapy/counseling deals with emotional trauma/mental health. Coaching focuses on what you need to do in order to move forward after loss, such as developing healing strategies.

  • How long will I need a grief coach for ?

Grief coaching length depends on an individual's needs and goals. Some people feel they need just a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over several months. Typically, clients work with a coach for a set number of sessions, but the timeline is flexible and can be adjusted as needed.

  • What happens in a typical grief coaching session ?

During our sessions, we will discuss your current stage in the grieving process and any obstacles you may be encountering. We will work together to establish objectives for your healing, address methods for handling your loss, and explore avenues for moving forward.

  • What qualifications or training do you have as a grief coach?

As a certified grief coach, trained through the Grief to Gratitude Certification Program at the Institute of Professional Grief Coaching, I have the skills and knowledge to guide individuals through the loss of a loved one. Having personally experienced the tragic loss of my son in 2017 due to addiction, I bring a unique level of empathy and insight to my coaching. I provide emotional support and strategies grounded in both my professional expertise and personal journey

  • What should I expect from the first session ?

During your initial session, our main focus will be on providing you with a comfortable space to share your story and discuss your experience with loss. This is your chance to express where you are in your grieving process, and I will listen without any preconceived notions or expectations. We will also begin to delve into what you hope to gain from grief coaching and how I can best help you. The first session is really about establishing a safe and supportive atmosphere for you to tell your story so you can move forward.

  • When should I start grief coaching ?

Grief coaching can begin whenever you feel you are ready to focus on healing. There is no set timeframe for when it should start; it can be soon after your loss or even years later. The most important factor is that you must feel you are ready and willing to start setting goals for yourself in order to start moving forward
